Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to reconstruct the existing 2.5-mile gravel-surfaced one-lane road with a paved, two-lane roadway. The Project is located on Prince of Wales Island, in Southeast Alaska. Naukati Road begins at the intersection of Alaska Forest Highway 20 and heads southwest towards Little Naukati Bay. The proposed alignment generally follows the existing road with horizontal and vertical realignments throughout the length of the project to improve drivability. Several rock cuts will serve as rock borrow sources. Several areas of deep, highly compressible muskeg deposits will necessitate special embankment design and construction requirements.
