Brainard Lake Road
Brainard Road is CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC (cars, bikes, and hikers), 7 days a week, 24 hours a day through June 28, 2018. Only emergency service providers will be allowed through. There are no alternative roads to the Brainard Lake Recreational Area.
Boulder County and the Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division (FHWA-CFLHD), in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, and Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests, propose to improve 2.5 miles of Brainard Lake Road. Improvements would include two, 11-foot travel lanes with a 4-foot paved shoulder on the uphill (onboard) side to accommodate cyclists, and a 1-foot wide paved shoulder on the downhill (outboard) side; increasing select horizontal curve radii to improve sight distance, drainage improvements, and upgraded signage and striping.
CFLHD intends to construct this project with the CO FTFS 112(2) Brainard Lake Bridge project to leverage economies of scale and maximize the efficiencies of resources.
