Cottonwood Pass Overview
Construction on both sides of Cottonwood Pass is occurring in 2018. The road is currently closed from approximately the Holy Water parking lot (Chaffee County side) to the intersection of CR 209 and CR 742 (Gunnison County side).
Later this year, the road closure will start just west of the Avalanche Trailhead Parking Lot (Chaffee County side) and extend to the intersection of CR 209 and CR 742 (Gunnison County side). There will be no public access to the Collegiate Peak Campgrounds, Denny Creek Parking Lot, Holy Water Parking Lot, the Summit, Continental Divide Trail, Timberline Trail, or areas in the vicinity. Emergency vehicle access will be allowed at all times, as weather permits.
Trail users already on the Continental Divide Trail and Timberline Trail will be allowed to the cross the project, but will not be able to leave the trails or be resupplied.
Access from Buena Vista will be open to the Cottonwood Lake area, Avalanche Trailhead Parking Lot, and businesses along Chaffee County Road 306. When work is occurring, traffic may experience delays up to 20 minutes.
Access will be open from Gunnison/Almont/Crested Butte to the Taylor Park area, including local businesses. There will be no construction-related delay to traffic.
This website will be updated to reflect current closures.
