HI STP SR50(1) HANAPEPE RIVER BRIDGE

Project Overview

The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration, in cooperation with the Hawaii Department of Transportation is developing a project located on the Kaumualii Highway, Route 50, at M.P. 16.57, the Hanapepe River Bridge, on the Island of Kauai.

A Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) has been prepared pursuant to HRS Chapter 343 (as amended), and Hawaii Administrative Rules Title 11, Chapter 200.   The document is available for download and review by clicking on the All Documents link on the left side of this page.

Island of Kauai, HI

The proposed project is located on the Kaumualii Highway (Route 50), the coastal perimeter road serving the west side. The subject bridge crosses the Hanapepe River near Hanapepe Bay. The project would improve the safety and reliability of the Hanapepe Bridge, through rehabilitation or replacement, addressing bridge width, load capacity, bridge railing and transitions, bridge approaches and to mitigate the effects of scour.


Update 8/1/2018

Temporary By-pass Bridge: The temporary bridge and bridge deck have been placed. Work on the temporary bridge is considered complete and the contractor, Hawaiian Dredging, has initiated demobilization of the project site to allow for the permanent bridge contractor (WW Clyde) to begin work.

Permanent Bridge: The permanent bridge construction contract was awarded to WW Clyde on April 13, 2018 2018 for $35,188,420.00. The construction Notice to Proceed is targeted for issuance in August 6, 2018. The contract duration is 684 Calendar days which will establish a contract completion date of June 20, 2020. Contractor operations expected during August and September include mobilizing equipment to the project site.


Update 7/1/2018

Temporary By-pass Bridge: The temporary bridge and bridge deck have been placed. Work on the temporary bridge is considered complete and the contractor, Hawaiian Dredging, is preparing the site for the permanent bridge contractor (WW Clyde) to begin work.

Permanent Bridge: The permanent bridge construction contract was awarded to WW Clyde on April 13, 2018. The construction NTP is targeted for issuance in July 2018 where the contractor will begin mobilization to the project site.


Update 6/1/2018

Temporary By-pass Bridge: The temporary bridge and bridge deck have been placed. The contractor is preparing the site for the permanent bridge contractor to begin work.

Permanent Bridge: The permanent bridge construction contract was awarded to WW Clyde Construction on APRIL 13, 2018. The construction Notice to Proceed is targeted for issuance in June/July 2018 following completion of the temporary bridge.


Update 5/1/2018

Temporary By-pass Bridge: The bridge piers have been constructed and the temporary bridge is scheduled to be launched into place in early May.

Permanent Bridge: The permanent bridge construction contract was awarded to Hawaiian Dredging on APRIL 13, 2018 TO WW Clyde Construction. The construction Notice to Proceed is targeted for issuance in June 2018 following completion of the temporary bridge.

Construction: There is no new information to share at this time.
