HI STP SR11(1) HILEA STREAM BRIDGE

Project Overview

The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the Hawaii Department of Transportation is developing a project located on the Mamalahoa Highway, Route 11, at M.P. 57.7, the Hilea Stream Bridge, on the Island of Hawaii.

A Draft Environmental Assessment (EA)
has been prepared pursuant to HRS Chapter 343 (as amended), and Hawaii Administrative Rules Title 11, Chapter 200. The document is available for download and review by clicking on the All Documents link on the left side of this page. The public comment period for the draft EA closed, no additional comments will be accepted.

Island of Hawaii, HI

The Hilea Stream Bridge is located on the Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11), mile post 57.7, in the Kau District. The project would improve the safety and reliability the timber bridge, through rehabilitation or replacement, addressing bridge width, load capacity, bridge railing and transitions.


Update 3/1/17:

Environment: The public comment period for the Draft EA has closed. Preparation of the final EA is in process.

Project Development: On-going design activities are focused towards supporting the environmental, utility, and right of way processes. The 95% design package has been completed and the project team is working to complete the 100% project design package.

Right of Way: Land owner boundary mapping and project right of way needs have been developed and are currently under review. Landowner meetings and appraisals will be initiated for affected landowners once maps have been approved.

Utilities: Coordination is underway with the utility agencies to prepare agreements for temporary and permanent relocations.

Construction: Funding has not been identified for this project. Project funding is dependent on availability with consideration of other statewide priorities.
