HI STP SR83(1) HOOLAPA STREAM BRIDGE (NANAHU)

Project Overview

The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the Hawaii Department of Transportation is developing a project located on the Kamehameha Highway, Route 83, M.P. 13.39, (Hoolapa Stream) Nanahu Bridge, on the Island of Oahu.

A Draft Environmental Assessment (EA)
has been prepared pursuant to HRS Chapter 343 (as amended), and Hawaii Administrative Rules Title 11, Chapter 200. The document is available for download and review by clicking on the All Documents link on the left side of this page.

Island of Oahu, HI

The proposed project is located on the Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) at mile post 13.39, west of the Marconi Road intersection in Kahuku. The project would improve the safety and reliability of the existing bridge, through rehabilitation or replacement, addressing bridge width, load capacity, bridge railing and transitions, and bridge approaches.

Update 1/1/17:

Environment: The public comment period for the Draft EA closed on November 7, 2016. The project Team is reviewing and analyzing public comment to the Draft EA. Preparation of the final EA is in process.

Project Development: Preparation of Design Build Request for Proposal documentation is currently underway.

Utilities: Coordination is underway with the utility agencies to prepare agreements for temporary and permanent relocations.

Right of Way: Land owner boundary mapping and project right of way needs have been developed and approved. Landowner meetings and appraisals have been initiated for affected landowners.

Construction: Funding has been identified for this project. A Design Build RFP is planned to be issued in March/April 2017.

Update 7/1/16:   Environment: The Draft EA is planned to be available for public comment in late August 2016. When available, the Draft EA will be available for download from this webpage. 

Project Development: A 30% design package has been prepared supporting environmental, utility, and right of way processes. Further design efforts will be completed through a design build contract.

Right of Way: Land owner boundary mapping and project right of way needs have been developed and are currently under review. Landowner meetings and appraisals will be initiated for affected landowners once maps have been approved.

Utilities: Coordination is underway with the utility agencies to prepare  agreements for temporary and permanent relocations.

Construction: Funding has not been identified for this project. Project funding is dependent on availability with consideration of other statewide priorities.
