HI STP SR99(1) KIPAPA STREAM BRIDGE (ROOSEVELT)

Project Overview

The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the Hawaii Department of Transportation is developing a project located on the Kamehameha Highway, Route 99, M.P. 14.4, (Kipapa Stream) Roosevelt Bridge, on the Island of Oahu.

The proposed project is located across Kipapa Gulch on Kamehameha Highway (Route 99) at mile post 14.4. The project would improve the safety and reliability of the existing bridge, through rehabilitation, addressing load capacity, bridge railing and transitions.


Update 9/1/17:

There is no new information to share at this time.

Construction activities planned to begin/or continue in September include finishing placement of the falsework for the overhang widening and beginning the overhang concrete pour to allow for the necessary cure time prior to placement of the concrete overlay.

Occasional one lane closures with alternate one-way flagger controlled traffic is anticipated based on the following schedule:

  • Monday thru Friday - Days from 8:00am thru 4:00pm
  • Monday thru Friday - Nights from 6:00pm thru 6:00am
  • Saturdays - 24-hours

Update 8/1/17:

Construction activities planned to begin/or continue in August include installation of scaffolding and work platforms to support the future work. Bridge railing removal activities have been initiated are are planned to be completed in August. Removal of the outer portion of the bridge deck is planned to begin in August.

  • Monday thru Friday - Days from 8:00am thru 4:00pm
  • Monday thru Friday - Nights from 6:00pm thru 6:00am
  • Saturdays - 24-hours

Update 7/1/17:

Construction activities planned to begin in July include installation of scaffolding to support the future deck widening and removal of the existing bridge railing.

Update 6/1/17:

Construction: Work began with a full roadway closure between May 5th and May 8th. During the first weekend closure, the Contractor removed the existing asphalt from the bridge deck, install temporary concrete barriers, and preform preparatory work necessary to install scaffolding under the bridge deck. Upcoming activities include the following: placing the falsework for the overhangs and removing the existing deck overhangs and utilities.

Following this closure, occasional one lane closures with alternate one-way flagger controlled traffic is anticipated based on the following schedule:

  • Monday thru Friday - Days from 8:00am thru 4:00pm
  • Monday thru Friday - Nights from 6:00pm thru 6:00am
  • Saturdays - 24-hours
