Swan Creek Road
Traffic delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected.
The project is located on the 8.1 mile length of Swan Creek Road between 303rd Avenue within the Town of Akaska and the cattle grate at the Swan Creek Recreation Area (SCRA) entrance. Swan Creek Road is a chip sealed road (asphalt blotter road) with a 24-foot pavement width. Swan Creek Road allows access to Lake Oahe at SCRA and carries a significant amount of traffic, especially during the summer months. Akaska serves as a seasonal home for many avid sportsmen and the lake access at SCRA is the closest, most convenient location for this seasonal population to camp or launch a boat.
The project consists of pavement reconstruction: pulverizing the existing blotter pavement in place; stabilizing and reshaping the subgrade with the grindings; overlaying the stabilized subgrade with a 4-inch depth of aggregate base; placing stabilized aggregate base; placing a chip seal pavement surface; replacing roadway signage; and restriping.
