Labonte Canyon Road in Medicine Bow National Forest
Project Description
A large diameter culvert was damaged in a heavy precipitation event in 2016. The damaged culvert was replaced with a new, larger culvert, designed to meet fish passage requirements. The new culvert is a metal (aluminum) box-style culvert with headwalls and wingwalls at the inlet and outlet. It is about 19 feet wide by 40 feet long. The bottom of the culvert was filled with about 2 feet of rock and cobbles to mimic the natural stream bottom. Some riprap was also placed on the streamside of the wingwalls to protect them from high flows.
