Drawing Pattern Lines From Transverse Features

Create Surface
  1. Open the Geopak Lines model in the ALI file.
  2. Open Roadway Designer.
  3. Under the Roadway Designer menus, select Tools > Options.

  4. Uncheck all of the Include Critical Sections and Superelevation Display check boxes.

  5. Click OK on the dialog and File > Save on the Roadway Designer menu.
  6. Click Process All.
  7. Select Corridor > Create Surface.

  8. Enter a Name to be used for the model.
  9. Toggle on Add Transverse Features
  10. Select PL_Transverse Features 01 for the Style:
  11. Toggle on Add Exterior Boundary
  12. Select PL_Exterior Boundary for the Style:
  13. Toggle on Display in Plan View Features
  14. Click Apply
  15. Close the Results dialog.
  16. Close the Create Surface dialog.
  17. Close Roadway Designer.

Isolate the Transverse Features and turn them into Pattern Lines

  1. Select the MicroStation Level Display dialog.
  2. Turn off all levels except for P_HAL_Centerline and P_GPK_Pattern_01.
  3. Select the MicroStation Move Parallel command.
  4. Use the roadway centerline as reference to copy parallel 150’ to the left and right.
  5. Use the 150’ offset lines as extension boundaries for the Transverse Features.

  6. Delete the 150’ offset lines.

Draw Cross Sections from Surfaces

ImportantThe workflow for running cross sections may vary.  Two things to pay careful attention to are the level on which the Pattern Lines get created from the Transverse Features and the file type used to cut the sections.  The recommended files to use are the .dtm file for both Existing and Proposed.

  1. Open the file where the Cross Sections will be created.

    Set active symbology to:

    • Level=X_Text_Search, Color=By Level, Weight= By Level, Font=23, Size=0.035, Justification= Center,Center
  2. Select the Draw Cross Sections from Surfaces tool on the Corridor Modeler dialog.

    XS Cells Tab
  3. Select the XS Cells tab.
  4. Set the following parameters:
    • Pattern: By DGN File
    • Design File: (Name of .dgn file)
    • Levels: P_GPK_Pattern_01
    • Colors: ByLevel
    • Styles: ByLevel
    • Weights: ByLevel

  5. Select the Surfaces tab.
  6. Set the following parameters:

    Text Settings:

    • Set the active level to X_Text_Search so the text will be drawn on the correct level.  The text size should be set to a reduced height to prevent the point labels from displaying too large.

    Existing Ground:

    • DTM File: (Name of .dtm file)
    • Method: Triangles
    • Type: Line String
    • Display Settings: By Feature (Existing Ground)

    Proposed Ground:

    • DTM File: (Name of .dtm file)
    • Method: Triangles
    • Type: Line
    • Display Settings: Same as Existing (.dtm file contains the symbology)
    • Click Draw on the Draw Cross Sections dialog.
    • Use GEOPAK Cross Section Navigator to review the sections.
    • Close the Draw Cross Sections dialog.
