ACTIVITY: Develop Plan-in-Hand (70%) design consists of the steps below.

  1. Complete approach road design
  2. Complete pullouts and parking area design
  3. Support major structure design
  4. Complete drainage design
  5. Complete cross-sections
  6. Finalize erosion control plans
  7. Support utility relocation plan
  8. Develop permanent traffic control
  9. Develop and update temporary traffic control
  10. Update plan and profile annotations of features
  11. Incorporate all applicable FLH Standard Plans

Step 1 (Weight: 5)

Description: Complete approach road design

  • Complete horizontal and vertical alignments for approaches
  • Complete plan and profile sheets
  • Complete major intersection plans
  • Complete cross sections for earthwork, clearing and seeding reports

Step 2 (Weight: 10)

Description: Complete pullouts and parking area design

  • Complete layouts
  • Complete grades for proper drainage
  • Complete curb and gutter, sidewalks, and parking stalls
  • Complete cross sections for earthwork, clearing and seeding reports
  • Complete plan and profile sheets
  • Verify design meets ADA requirements

Step 3 (Weight: 10)

Description: Support major structure design

  • Provide support for bridge design
  • Provide support to technical services for wall designs
  • Complete wall layout sheets

Step 4 (Weight: 15)

Description: Complete drainage design

  • Complete the major culverts design
  • Complete the minor culverts design
  • Complete end treatments for outlet protection for all culverts
  • Complete the plan and profile sheets for major drainage structures
  • Complete minor culvert cross-sections including approach road culverts
  • Complete design for roadside ditches and channels
